ד"ר אורן גולן הוא ראש התכנית לחינוך, חברה ותרבות. הוא חבר סגל בחוג למנהיגות ומדיניות בחינוך ובחוג למדעי הלמידה וההוראה. גולן בעל רקע בסוציולוגיה ואנתרופולוגיה חברתית, בדגש על החינוך הבלתי פורמלי. הוא מוביל קבוצת מחקר המתמקדת בניו מדיה, קהילתיות וחינוך. קבוצה הבוחנת את התהוותם של קהילות ללימוד עצמי בטכנולוגיות הניו מדיה (ברשתות החברתיות המקוונות, באתרי האינטרנט, באפליקציות הסלולריות וכיו"ב).

תחומי מחקר: מחקריו של אורן גולן נסובים סביב האינטרנט ואמצעי הניו מדיה כמרחב בלתי פורמלי. בהקשר זה, מחקריו נוגעים בגילויים של דת דיגיטלית, פעילויות נוער ברשת, פעילות פוליטית מקוונת, קהילות מודרות ברשתות החברתיות (בפייסבוק, בטוויטר ועוד').
